XC40, Volvo’s debut entry-level premium SUV, has been launched on September 21,2017 in Milan, Italy. Volvo’s new model in the market XC40 is tagged to be one of the fastest growing segments in India and all over the world that embraces of the Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW X1, and the Audi Q3.
The concept which the Swedish multinational manufacturing company has used in XC40 is 40.1, The buyers were informed about the concept to be used as the company had revealed it last year. A preview of the upcoming S40 sedan in which 40.2 concept will be used was also disclosed. The company asked the Indian Volvo car lovers to wait till next year as Volvo confirmed the XC40’s introduction in 2018 in India.
In XC40, Volvo has begun to use the new CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform. The platform is developed in cooperation with Geely, Chinese owners. For the time being, the buyers will get a diesel and a petrol engine option in the new premium SUV. All -wheel drive train is incorporated in both the variants. The company says that a hybrid and a pure electric version will be unwrapped later.
XC40’s EV avatar is the Volvo’s first-ever all-electric model which will be exported universally from China. Constructor’s new 3-cylinder engine are featured in the XC40 for the first time by the Swedish Company.

No matter you get a feel and a memory of XC60 and XC90 which are its elder siblings because of its designing features but, its new look and its distinctiveness and uniqueness will be apparent! A clamshell bonnet along with a nose down appearance are its two-distinct features unlike XC60 and XC90. To keep up with time, Volvo has given a chance to choose from color of roof matching with the shade of the body as well as from a contrasting roof color.
Thor’s Hammer, Volvo’s trademark, LED daytime running lights are also present in the SUV.
Talking about its’ appearance, here are the key traits of the new premium SUV-
- The SUV gives a wider from the back and a thick haunch on the rear as it is in the XC60 and the XC90, guard houses classic vertical lamps of Volvo.
- The cabin of the automobile is kept identical to its elder XC siblings, XC60 and XC90. A usual 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster together with a 9-inch touchscreen unit are there in the XC40.
- The place of the lower front door speakers is changed. They are now installed on the dashboard which allows you to hold a laptop in the door pockets.
- Its carpet helps to keep a check on bang noises as it has been extended to the storage areas in the doors as well.
The company will begin its production in November 2017 at Volvo’s plant in Ghent, Belgium. Local assembling of the XC90 will commence in India soon. As the other Volvo models are sold in the country, XC40 is expected to be imported as well.
