Reading and writing are the main tasks that you must focus on to progress and make improvements in your English language. Obviously, there are high chances that you will make mistakes as you are the learners.

Following are some of the rules that will surely help you in improving your language skills. Have a look.

Rules for Error-Free Speaking and Writing

  1. Make Use of Simple Language

There are many learners who have a habit of creating complex sentences, by adding present perfect tense or conditionals. They usually end up making terrible mistakes. So, don’t do this. If you are a beginner and you have started speaking or writing the language, make sure that you say what you can say (simple sentences) and not what you wish to say (complicated sentences). Your simple language may reflect that you are talking like a kid and not expressing your ideas. But, don’t worry, your main focus at this point is to not to express your views but to acquire the language skills effectively.

  1. Stay Slow and Careful

When you start learning the language, you must try to write very slowly. This means that if you need 1 hour to complete an email message with 10 accurate and correct sentences, that is completely fine. This is the time that it must take while you are just beginning to write. You might be thinking, why it should take such a long time? This is because you should read the sentences written repeatedly, to find for the mistakes. You may use a dictionary or web to find out if your sentences are correct. While speaking, you must make sure that first, you prepare the sentences in your head before speaking them out.

  1. Don’t Speak If You Are Unsure

This relates to both grammar and pronunciation. If you think that you cannot say something in the correct manner, it is always better not to speak. Of course, you don’t want to learn the wrong way of speaking. In order to get the right pronunciation, you may seek help from the dictionary or on the web. But, you don’t have enough time while speaking. So, this situation can be best managed by speaking what you know correctly.

  1. When Writing, Always Look Things Up

While writing, if you come across a word, about which you have less or no knowledge, you must look up for the same in the dictionary to find related illustrations to it. If you have written something about which you are not sure, search for it on the web to know about the correct usage. If you find the searches on many pages, then there are chances that it might be probably correct. Make sure that dictionaries and Google must be your everyday tools, that you must use while writing.

  1. Know Where You Can Screw Up

Sometimes, the beginners don’t even realize the difference between the English language and their native language. While speaking, they usually interpret word for word from the native language and consider them to be correct. While reading and writing, use “Pause and Think” method. Be careful while using articles, prepositions, and tenses. With this, you will get to know about the variations in the English and the native language.

How to be fluent in the language?

You need not to worry about the fluency of the language. It is easy to achieve the fluency by simply conversing. By practicing, you will be able to speak faster.

But, it is much better to be slow and correct rather than being fluent with a good number of errors. You might be thinking Why? Because being slow and correct, you can easily enhance your speed and further become fluent and correct. On the other hand, if you are fluent and commit mistakes, it becomes hard to fix your errors and become correct and confident.
